| Note: Many of the sets on this page came from by "Keeper Sets". I have been buying and selling Hartlands for about 14 years and have held on to the better sets, while selling off the lesser ones. Rest assured, I am trying to describe the sets below as though I would have expected a seller describe them to me (an uncommon effort!) Many of the sets may sound "worse" than they really are, but I am trying to isolate every small flaw for you. There is a "chance" I missed a small flaw on a few pieces below, but I did make an honest effort. Most sets will fall into the Excellent (C-8) to Near Mint (C-9) range, as described individually below.
Please do not expect me to "deal" on these sets. They are much too hard to find in this condition. Across the board, these are "cherry picked" sets already, isolated from the run of the mill "good" condition sets you can normally find. The money from the sets goes into a kid's savings account for college.
You will note the comment that Visa and Mastercard are not accepted for the sets on this page. Since these sets came from my personal collection, I have already paid income taxes on them when I originally used personal money to purchase them. I cannot run the sets through my business account without paying income taxes again. The money from these sets will go into the kid's college funds. Gem Mint In Box Stevens Thunderbird Set:
For the collectors who have just about everything, here's one of the rare sets, still sealed in the original package. Depending on who you ask and who you believe, there were between 24 and 100 of these sets made. I don't think this one has been out of the box. All parts and pieces are still attached to the background panel. Of all sets Stevens reissued, this was proably the finest one.

Cochise Set #7:
This Cochise set is in excellent condition, but not near mint. It has a few typical black and silver marks hear and there. The silver headband is missing a little paint. The reins look original to me. For this price, you get all original parts, including a silver pistol and rifle. .....

Matt Dillon Set :
This is a nice, clean set with all original parts. (not sure about the reins). The yellow on the shirt of the figure is a bit duller or darker than some I own, but still nice and even. The horse has a nice buttery buckskin color. No major rubs or flaws on the set. Hair paint under the hat is a bit thin but it is covered with the hat on his head. Correct saddle and hat. For this price, you get the original horse, saddle, figure, hat, and silver pistol.

Rifleman Set 1 SOLD KG:
About the only flaw I can find on this set is a thin spot of paint on the tip of the nose of the figure, allowing some blue paint to show through. There are a few small random black marks, but I cleaned most of them off. The set is nice and glossy, with a few typical midroscratches where the saddle has been taken on and off. All original parts including the horse, rider, saddle, hat, and rifle.

Crockett Set 4:
Overall, very nice set. Figure has good color, but paint a little thin on knees, elbows and rump, bordering on full rubs. Nose is a tiny bit flatten, but professionally repainted (airbrushed) face and hair. Silver on powderhorn has a few small scratches and other slight paint loss. Horse has normal play scratches, but solid. Replacement reins.
For this price, you get an original horse, figure, saddle, longrifle, cap. Repro knife......$360

Bowie Set 1:
This set displays very well. It has been handled some but it doesn't look like the original owner actually played with it. The silver is thin and rubbed some on the powderhorn and strap and there is a tiny amount of paint missing on the tip of the nose of the figure. The horse is in good shape, with a few microscratches and fine black marks on the stockings. Crimped reins. The saddle has three or four very fine "teeth marks" in the green. They almost look like they came that way as the paint covers all of them. For this price, the set will come with an original figure, horse, saddle, hat, and rifle, with a repro Cheyenne style long knife.

Bowie Set 3:
Very nice set. The figure is in about average played with condition, with a few rubs on the high spots. Thin paint on the nose, otherwise solid figure. Horse is solid, with off white stockings and blaze. Original reins with crimp. Small play marks and scratches. One silver nick on front shoulder of horse.

General Lee Set 1:
General Lee is in pretty good shape, with a few small black marks here and there. The tops of the gold buttons are rubbed. The horse is off white, but very solid and clean. Minor scratches and marks. Original knotted reins. The saddle, hat, and sword are in fine shape and unrepaired or repainted. For this price you will get the original figure, horse, saddle, hat, and sword, plus a repro flag with bamboo post.

General Lee Set 2:
This Lee set has an off white to light cream colored horse with the wavy tail. Reins may have been replaced. There is a little reddish staining where the tail was glued onto the horse. The entire set has the normal black marks and light scratches. The gold trim is mostly rubbed on the figure's buttons and hat emblem. The figure has a nose rub. The saddle is in fine shape with gwo good stirrups. For this price, you get the original horse, figure, hat, and saddle.

This is a set with a very yellowed horse, but in good solid shape. It might make a good customized horse. The figure has quite a few marks and fine scratches and needs some cleaning. The hat and saddle are in good shape.

Jockey Set 1:
This is a beautiful, bright set. White plastic is slightly off white. One small nick of red paint on back of left elbow. Horse has good color, solid tail, crisp ear tips, and very few play scratches. Not sure about reins, but look old. For this price, you get the original figure, horse, and riding saddle. Repro Crop...$225 |
Jockey Set 2:
Other than the few light scratches in the surface of the horse, this set has few other flaws. The white on the figure's pants is bright white, but not yellowed at all. Everything is bright and solid including the tail. Ear tips are nice and pointed. Crimped original reins. For this price, you get the original figure, horse, and saddle blanket, plus a repro crop.

Tonto Set 1:
I don't think this set has had much play time. It is not perfect, but hasn't been abused at all. The paint is a little thin on the tips of the toes, tip of the nose, and some of the silver banding is thin or rubbed over the fringe. Some of the silver is missing on the headband, mostly the front. The horse is slightly off white, and has a few very minor micro scratches and marks. Original crimped reins. The saddle fits nicely. For this price, you get the original figure, horse and saddle, plus a repro feather, knife, and silver pistol.

Roy Rogers Set 1 SOLD:
For most collectors, this RR set will be a showcase set. It has a few very minor imperfections, however. Trigger has good color, slightly off white. It has a couple of small black marks that might come off, but also has one small scratch less than 1/8" diameter on the back left leg. I have had this horse in my display case for years. The figure is bright anc clean, but has a tiny dot of missing paint on the tip on the nose. I had never noticed it until I was cleaning the set up for descirptions, but it has a micro fracture in the blue part of the shirt, just under his right hand. You have to look close to see it. For this price you will get an original horse, figure, hat, saddle and two repro pistols.

Roy Rogers Set 2:
This is a premium set with very few issues to even comment on here. The white plastic on the horse and hat is a tad off white. The tip of the left ear on the horse has a tiny bend at the end. There is a very tiny mark or scratch on the left neck of the horse. Crimped reins. The figure is clean, bright and solid. No major imperfections at all.
For this price, you will get an all original set, including the horse, figure, hat, saddle, and two silver pistols.

Dale Evans Set 4:
This is a very strong set with few problems to define. As with almost all Dale sets, there is some staining on the barrel of the horse under the saddle. Additionally, there is a small seam split behind the saddle on the top of the rump. It runs roughly 3/4" and opened up at about the space of a pin. The figure is great, with the only flaw I can find on the tip of the nose. There is a very tiny speck of paint missing.
For this price, you will get an all original set, including the horse, figure, hat, saddle, and one silver pistol.

This set displays very well.The horse and hat have darkened to a light creme color but otherwise are in very nice shape. The figure has a few very fine marks of black and silver, normal for a piece that has been carefully handled but not played with. A few of the silver dots on the saddle have rubbed off, not bad. Seth Adams Set 1:
Not many flaws on this set to try to describe. It is a solid, bright set. Two of the buttons on the vest are rubbed, with a few random, very tiny black marks on the back of the vest. Comes with the correct horse, regular black saddle, figure, and black hat. One repro brown pistol and whip. Judging by the dust on the set, it appears I used this one on my display shelf at one time...............

Seth Adams Set 2 :
Another very clean set with minimal scratches, marks and rubs. The slender tailed horse has a small blemish on the left shoulder. It looks like the remnants of some scotch tape from a long time ago. The figure has two very small black dots on the right leg that appears to be a factory defect from removing the paint mask. It is minimal, but worth noting. Colors nice, bright and glossy. For this price, you get the correct horse, figure hat, and regular black saddle. It also includes a repro brown pistol, whip, and short Winchester rifle....

This is almost an identical twin to Set #1. Very few microscratches and fine black marks. No big rubs anywhere. on either set. The fine marks should come off easily.

Paladin Set 1 : SOLD
This is a terrific Paladin set! Judging from the dust on the figure, it looks like I have had it on display here in the house. There isn't much to identify on this one. A solid 9. There are a couple of black marks on the white horse, but they should come easily with Novus Polish. The horse has crimped reins, with a little rust on the crimp. The figure is beautiful and glossy, with no noticable rubs at all. Original horse, figure, rifle holed saddle, hat (P inside) and brown pistol. ..........$325

Paladin Set 4:
Not much difference in this set and the other three. Good colors on both horse and figure. A few of the raised dots on the saddle are rubbed but that is about all to describe. Many rifle holed saddles were molded in black plastic. This one is white, painted black on the top surface. For this price, you get the origninal horse, figure, saddle, hat, and brown pistol.

#29 Unpainted Nativity Set:
This set is a bit more "ivory" in color than one of my Nativity sets. The 1959 Wards Christmas catalog described their set as Ivory, so maybe this set was actually molded this color. I don't know. There a 17 pieces in this set. The second standing wise man is just behind the other standing wise man in the photo. The set is missing one ewe and the gloria angel. I've never seen an all white Camel Keeper. Three or four pieces have a couple of red marks on them. I did not try to clean it off. The white sets are not known to have a stable. ...............$175

| \#29B Unpainted Nativity Set 17 Piece: Last summer, I bought a set that was just a notch more white. This is the set I had prior, and I thought it was great. The Angel is a bit darker than the rest of the pieces, coming from the set #29 above. It would probably bleach back to the lighter color to match the other pieces, but I didn't try it on this piece. Like quite a few of my Gloria Angels, it is missing the little connector on the back, but that can easily be remedied with a wire tie (like the ones on a loaf of bread). The set came to me with only four sheep. ...........................$225 |
