800 Series Horse and Rider Hats
Most riders seemed to get their own hat molds. Some of the hats are numbered or lettered on the underside of the crown, usually fairly visible. However, some hats like the Clayton Moore Lone Ranger hats have letters so fine, you really have to be searching for them. It is not uncommon to find some of the letters backwards or incomplete, such as the hat for The Texan-Bill Longley. I haven’t inspected every hat in my collection for numbering variations, but there could easily be other numbers or letters in some hats that I have not found.
Seth Adams (Ward Bond) : O, R, U, S, similar hat to Maverick Gunfighter only black.
Annie Oakley : no number or letter, has holes for thread, similar to Evans hat except has braided edge.
Jim Bowie : no number or letter, same as Earp hats—only white.
Tom Jeffords : no number or letter, slightly crushed oval crown.
Brave Eagle (later sets shipped with both Warbonnet and Feather) : no number or letter.
Brave Eagle (probably shipped without warbonnet in the very beginning)

700 Series Standing Gunfighters
Some of the Gunfighters share hats with their Horse and Rider sets. However, Maverick and Hardie have smaller heads and were fitted with their very own hats.
Jim Hardie : no number or letter, smaller and more slender hat than Horse & Rider
Brett Maverick : usually R, smaller hat than Horse & Rider, not known to have a black hat except on TV.
Chris Colt : no number or letter.
Clay Hollister : no number or letter. This is the most common. Brochures show one similar to Dillon hat.
Wyatt Earp : no number or letter, same as Horse & Rider, often maroon, sometimes black.
Bat Masterson : no number or letter
Paladin : P, same as Horse and Rider hat.
Vint Bonner : no number or letter
Dan Troop : no number or letter, similar to a Dillon hat but no fine line at the edge of the brim.
Johnny McKay : no number or letter, similar to a Dillon hat but thicker and black

900 Series Large Champs
There are three large Champ hat molds that I know about. I’ve never seen a factory painted black one. Most are molded in white plastic, however a few of them have also been painted white to match the white paint added to the figures. Most of those probably went with the all black large cowboy. The Cowgirl hat is slightly different than either of the Cowboy hats.
Large Champ Cowboy Hat - Style 1 : This one has a deep crease and severe slant back.
Large Champ Cowboy Hat - Style 2 : Not much of a crease and less slant.
Large Champ Cowgirl Hat : Flat crown
