500 Series Mini Horses

The Mini Horses were made in a variety of colors. There were three mold types; Walking, Prancing, and Semi-Rearing. With the exception of the Palominos, each set was produced in all three types with either unpainted manes and tails or with black manes and tails. While many of the horses often were paired with a similar horse mold found on their larger 800 series counterpart, there was quite a bit of switching around on those, too.

Note: Until recently, I wasn't sure if Hartland ever made the Mini Palominos with the black mane and tail, but after getting this piece in my hands, I am sure of it now. I don't know if they did the Walker and Prancer with a black mane and tail, yet, but I'd bet they did after seeing this one.

Styrene Prancer:
This one is made out of styrene plastic—having that distinctive “pingy” sound when tapped. I have been told that these pieces were made by Strombecker in the mid 60’s under the Circle H brand.

There is probably a Semi-Rearing version of this horse, too.

Palomino Walker/ unknown paint:
This one has me a little stumped. I can't tell if it is one of the unpainted horses that someone tried painting, or a painted one that someone has tried to strip. Either way, there are some remnant black paint streaks in the mane and tail.
Styrene Prancer and Figure:
This horse is made out of styrene plastic, but the figure seems to be heavier and it feels more like acetate plastic to me. In later years, Hartland sold all the minis in a bin, with the pieces left unpainted.
