500 Series Minis

The first Minis were introduced in time to be offered in the 1960 Christmas catalogs and continued as a Hartland product for another three years or so. Generally speaking, there were 12 different sets in the line-up, however the Rebel was painted in two different color schemes. Additionally, they were later recombined and sold as simply “The Westerner”. The Rifleman was the only figure to have a loose weapon. Each set, except Tonto, had a small hat. There were three horse molds, made in several colors of plastic, and sold with either a black mane and tail or without paint on those areas. They were often combined with the figure in all three variations. Each In later years, mini horse and riders were sold unpainted in bins at the toy stores.

The Westerners

Tonto Style Westerner
As you can see in the photo to the left, Hartland packaged some of the sets in the later years as simply "The Westerner". The 1964 brochures listed them as "The Cowboys, Indians, and Gambler".

There were other combinations of riders and horses. Click here to view other Westerners on the Mini Brochure Photos and Ads page.

The Sundance Kid is shown on the right in the photo. He is a tiny bit larger and made of cheaper Styrene plastic. This one is reportedly made in the later years at the Strombecker plant under the Circle H brand.
