Jim Hardie: #864
Hardie is the only left handed western figure with the exception of the two holster gunslingers. Hartland also created a Standing Gunfighter of this character. The set has basically three different horse variations. The one above is unique to Hardie when it was shipped, with the mane down chestnut coloring.

The Main-Down Semi Rearing Horse shown above is probably less common than the mane up, wavy tailed version shown below. This one came to me as part of my first boxed set. I like to include a rifle with the sets having the rifle holed saddles.
This Mane-Up Semi-Rearing horse with the full Wavy Tail is probably Hardie’s most common mount. The white stockings and blaze are painted over the chestnut colored plastic.
Mane-Up Semi-Rearing horse with the slender tail: This version seems to be much less common than the horse with the full wavy tail. The boxed set I purchased a long time ago came with this horse.

Hardy figure: “© Hartland Plastics, Inc.” on the rump.

Hardie’s Box is one of the generic Crystal Palace boxes. His round tag seems to be the same one used with the Gunfighter figure. He first appears in the 1959 brochure with the photo shown above.

Hardie’s Horse and Rider Hat is different than his Gunfighter Hat. This one is thicker and has an “H” inside the crown.

Hardie’s saddle is one of the “rifle holed” saddles, commonly used on the later sets. His optional rifle would have been one of the two shown here. Many of the early horse and riders received regular silver pistols, but by the time Jim Hardie was being sold, I believe many of them had the brown or black pistols shown below.
