Mike Jackson’s Hartland Photos:
CHIEF THUNDERBIRD

Thunderbird Literature:
Note the shield and rifle in the first one...and the incorrect coloring of the horse. The tail is black in both but was shipped in white. Using these two photos, it is clear to me Hartland designed the shields for Thunderbird. Brave Eagle was not made for quite some time later.

This is from the only color literature that I have ever found from Hartland. Interestingly, the sheet shows many of the late 50’s figures and lists the Gunfighters but shows the black and white pinto “Northwind” and the regular Thunderbird figure. I would have thought the newer Warpaint Thunderbird would have been available by then. Also, note the shield and the red tipped spear. Most sets that I have seen, usually have the black and white spear with this set up. Brave Eagle, also included on the literature sheet, does not show a shield.
