Tom Jeffords & Accessories

Tom Jeffords:#821
Jeffords was a fairly consistent set. He shipped with only one horse variation, a walking gray appaloosa. He carried a rifle, knife, and silver pistol and wore a distinctive white hat. Some brochures show the horse with one white stocking but I have never seen a production version of it. The very thin layer of paint used on the Appaloosa horse is often rubbed and worn.

A similar horse was sold without the painted bridle and was sold as a “horse only” in the later years.

Some information in this chart from “Total Television” by Alex McNeil 1996, 4th Edition

Mold Mark
Jeffords: “©Hartland Plastics, Inc” on the back of the right arm.

Jeffords’ colorful box is shared with Cochise, the other major character of the “Broken Arrow” TV show. Many Hartland boxes showed a small diagram illustrating the parts included in the set.

Like the box, Jeffords’ tag is similar to the Cochise tag. The brochures showed Jeffords riding an Appaloosa with three white stockings, but I have never seen a production horse with those markings. His Rifle also seems to have a silver barrel which was never produced.

Tom Jeffords’ Hat is quite distinctive, but has no numbers or letters. The plastic is unusually thin in the front and sometimes almost transparent. Like many of the Hartland hats, it is difficult to find loose.

Jeffords’s saddle is one of the “rifle holed” saddles, commonly used on the later sets. His rifle is the longer Winchester, often used with other sets. The knife is brown and shaped the same as the knife used with Brave Eagle.
Being one of the later sets, Jeffords could have been shipped with either a silver or brown pistol.
