Mike Jackson’s Hartland Photos:
WESTERN PARTS — RIFLES

Text & Photographs Copyright Mike Jackson 1998-2008

Hartland produced quite a variety of rifles and small weapons, many of which were lost in the grass or swept up in the vacuum over the years. While the silver weapons seemed fairly consistent over the years, the brown group of rifles and accessories varied a lot from burnt orange to almost maroon or wine colored.

RIFLES

Jeffords Style Winchester:
This rifle seems to have been made for Tom Jeffords, but it seems to have later been used with many of the other sets including Favor, Maverick, Longley, Hardy, Gillman and Paladin. It is a little longer than the Ward Bond style rifle below.

Ward Bond Style Winchester:
I had always been under the impression that Ward Bond always shipped with a Winchester like the one above. However, it appears that many of the early sets did not have the rifle, nor the rifle holed saddle. I am not exactly positive that he ever had the rifle, but enough of them show up to indicate they did use them with several of the figures listed above, too. It is almost identical to the Rifleman rifle below but without the full ring. There is a good possibility that they just adapted the rifle and shipped it whenever they felt the figure needed a rifle.

Lucas McCain Rifleman Rifle:
No doubt about this one! It shipped with every Rifleman. It is the same size and general shape as the Ward Bond Rifle above except for the addition of the flip ring.
Mini Lucas McCain Rifleman Rifle:
This little mini rifle is certainly in with the hardest to find accessories. I don’t believe very many of the mini Rifleman sets had the rifle in the first place but due to their small size, most have probably been lost. The larger rifle is 3 1/2" and the mini rifle is only 2 1/4" long.

Cochise Rifle:
Like many of the brown rifles, this one varied quite a bit in color from almost orange to dark brown. Based on early Hartland photos, it appears to have been produced to go with early Chief Thunderbirds in white, shown below, but was the only rifle used by Cochise and no other figure.

White Indian Rifle:
According to early Hartland photos, this rifle was originally designed to go with Chief Thunderbird sets but they must have felt he already had enough small parts. Some Brave Eagle sets included this rifle along with the shield that was originally produced for Chief Thunderbird.

Stevens White Indian Rifle:
In 1988, Stevens Plastics released a version of Chief Thunderbird molded in cheaper Styrene plastic. I don't think those sets included this rifle, but apparently the rifles were included in the accessories mold and quite a few of them have surfaced. Still a collectable piece from Hartland history. They also produced the spear, knife, and tomahawk but I don’t have any of them to show here.

Crocket and Bowie Longrifle:
These vary quite a bit in color, too. They are the longest of the rifles and are some of the hardest to find, due to their age and brittle nature.

Rebel Shotgun:
The short sawed off double barrel weapon used by Johnny Yuma. Tough to find!
Randall Mare’s Leg
Josh Randall’s trademark sawed off flip rifle which clips on his belt “holster”. Hard to find, too!
