| Many collectors are searching for the Rebel, McKay, and Mackenzie sets because they are very hard to find. Those“rare” sets might appear easy to find compared to some of these “scarce”. items. In many cases, there might be only a half dozen or less known to exist! I’ll be adding more of them to this page as I get the time and good photos. |

Scarce Figures:
|
 |
 |
800 Series Small Black Champ Figure
These small figures are very similar to the 900 Series Black Cowboys. They are both marked “Hartland Molded, Hartland, Wisc.” which seems to indicate they were made in early 1954. They are molded in black plastic with the white, silver, and flesh tones painted over the top. He probably rode the white Champs style horse with black tack, similar to the horse used with the early Champ style Lone Ranger.

800 Series Small Jade Green Cowgirl Figure
Similar to the small Black Cowboy, this figure has a larger 900 Series counterpart, also difficult to find. She may have been paired with any number of colors of Champ style horses, but I am fairly certain she did come on a Palomino. This mold was also used for the Red & White Cowgirl and again for the early style Dale Evans.

Brown Chubby Horse with Painted on Bridle
Several collectors have this horse. The ones purchased with a rider have been with Wyatt Earp figures and accessories. The Wyatt Earp figure also has some special characteristics, such as his long painted sideburns. |

Palomino with black tack:
I don’t actually own this one but news of it comes from a reliable source. My blue tack version of this horse actually has very dark navy blue tack, but this is actually black. It is possible a mount for the Jade Green Cowgirl, but actually it could have had a black Champ saddle and had a variety of riders, if at all. |

800 Series White Champ Horse with Small Tail & White Hooves.
I don’t know for sure which figure rode this horse. I have my Solid Black Cowboy on him for now. The regular white Champ horses similar to this have a longer tail and the hooves have been painted black.

Scarce Accessories:

Blue & White Roy Rogers Saddle
These saddles seem to have been produced very early in the RR series. A similar saddle shows up in the Roy Rogers Museum and also on an early Roy Rogers dealer sheet. I believe it would normally be paired with the Champ Style Trigger.

Blue Plain Roy Rogers Saddle with stenciled RR
When I first received this saddle with a Roy Rogers set, I thought someone had played a joke on me. As it turned out, it was a rare piece! This is probably the first Roy Rogers saddle, made from a Lone Ranger saddle. (The Champ style pointed blue saddle actually might have the very first?)

Blue Champ Saddle
At least two collectors tell me they own this saddle. I had to adjust the colors of a black one in Photoshop to have one to show here. The two we know about have dots. It’s impossible to say for sure at this point, but it might have been a very early saddle used with Roy Rogers.

Brown Champ Style Pistol
I only know of two of these pistols right now. I got them from a collection from about 1961 when many of the weapons were molded in brown. This one probably went with Tonto.

Black Tipped Thunderbird Warbonnet
I know of only four or five of this piece around. It seems to be one of the earliest of the warbonnets as it is very close to the warbonnets shown in the artist’s rendering of that prototype set.

Red & White Tomahawk
I am farily certain this one is for real, though I don’t know of anyone else having one. The white plastic had yellowed to the same degree as the rest of the parts that came to me with the Thunderbird set. |

Preston Flag
This is by far the most rare of the silk flags. They are all hard to find in good condition, but this was was sold in such small quantities. The one you see here came to me with a Mint O’Rourke set, so they may have shipped with a few of the later ones. |
