Sports Cake Toppers

Text & Photographs Copyright Mike Jackson 1998-2009

Hartland created a few small figures which were often used as cake toppers. They are quite collectible, of course.

Sportsman Baseballer with White Base #697
Maid of Scandinavia simply called this the “Sportsman Baseballer” in their catalogs. Collectors call him the “Minor Leaguer”. 50¢

Sportsman Baseballer with Black Base #697,
Maid of Scandinavia simply called this the “Sportsman Baseballer” in their catalogs. Collectors call him the “Minor Leaguer” . Notice the white based one below. I've seen a solid gold version, too. 50¢

Sportsman Bowler #699
This piece showed up in quite a few of the earlier years. They sold for 50¢, same as the rest of the small cake toppers. Notice it also came with a black base at times.
1963, Bowler
I didn’t notice this figure being available prior to 1963, but maybe I missed it. 50¢
The 1963 Maid of Scandinavia Catalog shows a lady bowler in a blue and white outfit. This one has a bright red dress.

Sportsman Golfer #698
These seemed to be in quite a few of the Maid of Scandinavia catalogs. Someday, I will check on its earliest appearance. 50¢

1963, The Little Leaguer
I have had some contact with Hartland Sports collectors who question whether the Little Leaguer was ever sold as a cake topper. Well, here it is! It sold for 95¢ in 1963. This is the only Maid of Scandinavia catalog I have been able to find it in.
