Maid of Scandinavia Catalogs

This mail order company, located in Minneapolis, MN, specialized in cake decorating supplies, tools, and accessories. Starting around 1958, they began carrying some of Hartland’s smaller figures, mostly religious, and continued through at least 1963. On occasions, they included color sheets which contained at least some Hartland pieces as shown below.

1963, Organdy Heart Ornament
This is a basic topper which sold for $2.75. Hartland cake toppers did not appear in any Maid of Scandinavia catalogs until 1963.

These two photos (above and below) were part of the centerfold of the Spring Catalog. The small copy indicates you can have your choice of either black or white tux on the groom figure. Price range: $2.15 - $4.50

1962 Text: Heirloom Treasure
“We are very happy to be able to present to you this entirely new line of ornaments, which have designed with artistry and restrained good taste. You will find careful workmanship, immaculate detailing, and protective packaging; in short, an ornament which you will be proud to display on your cake creation. (Coats on grooms are available in either black or white, so please let us know which you prefer) all bases are plain white discs set on four heart-bell arrangements. Very different!”
