| The Wyeth Company from St. Joseph, Missouri distributed catalogs to their clients. This page comes from the 1953 edition and it shows a Breyer Western Horse in the 10.25 height. This sheet helps date introduction of the smaller Breyer Pony to no later than mid-1953. The caption under the #43 Palomino seems to indicate the horse shown is the small horse, however the caption under #57 also seems to indicate the horse shown is the larger version. Since I am not much of a Breyer collector, I asked Nancy Youngwho IS a Breyer expert. She tells me it is the larger Breyer Western Horse, due to the lack of a part in the mane. Based on Breyer literature, this large horse (or a very similar version of it) was originally created for the Mastercrafters clocks in 1950.
